My 60 day visa expires May 2nd and my flight to US has been cancelled. Just want to make sure that 60 day automatic extension applies to me without my needing to contact Shanghai Exit Entry office.

Correct. It still applies. My friend in the industry said as long as it’s your first time using this 60-day automatic extension, you’ll be fine and won’t need to visit/contact the exit-entry bureau.
