Visa extension

Q & A ForumVisa extension
Alicia Dominguez asked 4 years ago

To whom it may concern,

I am holding a residence permit because I am working in Shanghai but it will expire this Friday. I will arrive on Thursday because I have been abroad due to the virus, so I would ask how I can extend my visa for two months. Should I apply? Or is it done automatically? If it is done automatically, how can I check that it has been done?

Thanks in advance,

Alicia

Hi Alicia,
It is done automatically. There is no way of checking really. Think of it as a 2-month grace period from the expiration date of your residence permit, during which you can renew your (work permit and) residence permit.

If you are planning to leave China for good, as long as you leave by May 12th, the immigration officer at the airport will not give you any trouble.
