Hello,
I am currently in Shanghai under a X1 student visa, originally due to expire on 31st July. I have two questions:

  1. Is there any way of knowing whether this 60 day extension will apply to my visa?
  2. Are there any restrictions on using this extension period to apply for a Z visa from within China?

Hi Peter C,
 
You are automatically granted the extension. BUT, if before July 31st, the government announces “the pandemic period is over!” then you won’t get the 60-day extension. 
 
No restrictions. You can apply for a Z-visa during the extension period from within China.
