Hello,
we left Shanghai to go on holidays before CNY to go to our home in the Netherlands. Today we are still in the Netherlands and will not be able to travel back soon due to the travel restrictions. My company decided it would be better for us to stay in the Netherlands. They intend to terminate my work permit (remotely) in April. Our residence permits (for me, my wife and 2 kids) are still valid until August. Are we supposed to come back to Shanghai to formally terminate our residence permits? If so, what does the exit procedure entail and how long will it take exactly?

Nope, no further action required. Just let the residence permits expire naturally.
