Hello,
I am an overseas chinese. I have an admission notice to study chinese for half a year. What other documents (next to proving my chinese heritage) do I need when applying for the 华裔卡 when the reason for application is studying.

It seems you are mixing two purposes. You either get a study permit OR you get a family visa. Refer to Q2 on this page for reference: http://www.visainchina.com/familyvisa.htm
If your parents / grandparents are Chinese, then you’ll probably get a 1 year visa with maximum of somewhere between 60-120days per entry. So you may need to go on visa runs on go to neighbouring countries.
