Hi I am currently working for the company located in Shanghai with working visa. I am currently in Korea, and my work permit is valid until 5/12. My last day of work is May 12th accordingly. In this virus situation, do I have to revisit Shanghai to cancel my work permit, or it can be automatically expired, leaving no issues on my status? Thank you.

Hey Chung Hyun,
It seems you will be done with your job on May 12th and you won’t be returning to China for this job again.
Then correct, you can just let the work permit expire automatically without any consequences on your status.
For example, if you want to get another job in China several months/years down the line (or just visit as a tourist), you won’t get penalized in any way for not cancelling your work permit in the past.
