Hi
I want to get a family visa in Shanghai as I am married to a Chinese woman, however she is from Sichuan. Does this mean I need to go to Sichuan to get the visa or can I do it in Shanghai?

If your wife only has a Sichuan household registration, then you will only be able to get a family visa through her household registration in Sichuan.
But if your wife is a “New Shanghainese” i.e. acquired a Shanghai household registration, then you will be able to apply at the Shanghai Public Security Bureau (aka exit-entry bureau).
If your wife has a long-term residence permit over 6 months and has her own Shanghai property, then you’re also eligible to apply for a family visa in Shanghai.
